Shternie Wuensch is a licensed marriage and family therapist with a private practice in Miami, FL and online. She is also trained as somatic psychotherapist, the belief that our bodies carry the stories of our life and trauma, and through body awareness and practices we can move towards healing. With her background in chassidic life and psychology she deeply understands the issues of modern relationship and spiritual life.
What you will hear in this episode:
– Shternie talks about her journey in becoming a therapist. She started out as a Chabad emissary/rebbetzin, a role that enabled her to form deep, personal connections with others. Her experience with infertility led her to work on her own healing through her loss and pain and paved the way for her career as a therapist.
– Shternie talks about her training as a somatic therapist. Since her struggle was very body oriented, Shternie felt that her healing had to be from a more body oriented perspective. We discuss the idea that the body can hold on to trauma and experiences and therefore tuning into the body can be a powerful tool in the healing process.
-Do you ever feel completely overwhelmed or anxious? By simply tuning into our body and asking”what does my body need now?” we can get a clearer grasp on what we need to give ourselves. That can be rest, reflection, connecting with others etc. Our bodies will always tell us what we are feeling if we can just quiet all the external noise and gently tune in.
-We discuss why patience is such a crucial trait in our lives. Part of having faith is understanding that things unfold at the exact time that they are meant to happen. Letting go, trusting the process and understanding that if it’s meant to be it will happen are important components in living a healthy and spiritual life. Each soul comes down with a soul imprint and a soul mission, we each need to trust our path.
